An Update from Officer Ramon Perez
I
wanted to send you a note to thank you for your latest article
(“The Cross and The Shield,” Pro
Libertate, March 2007).
I very much appreciate your discernment and wisdom that has enhanced
your understanding of this case, which affects all Americans
and their freedoms.
You know, I was asked by a reporter how much money I wanted
in settling this case. That reporter was entirely lost in relation
to the merits of this case and the significance it has regarding
the core values of our great country.
My reply
to the reporter was easily forthcoming. Looking directly at
the reporters assembled I stated my reply as a question: “How
much is a drop of spilled blood worth to you of a deceased American
soldier who fought in previous battles under the banner of our
flag like those fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan? Let not their
sacrifice be in vain!"
That question sank deep into the hearts and minds of all that
were listening.
You know, I did not really understand why I was facing this
trial when it began in April of 2005. But I know now that God
has called me to take this stand and that I was purposed for
it. I believe God is going to use this circumstance to reveal
both His power and glory. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob
promised those that follow Him that we would suffer because of
our faith in His Son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The truth
is, suffering for the righteousness of Jesus is was living is
all about! I am not ashamed of my convictions nor do I regret
doing the things I did that brought all this on. You see, my
soul is at peace every night when I go to sleep. I am not tormented
with the thought of vindicating myself, for God through His Son
has vindicated me already! My hope is for every man, including
those that would wish harm on me, to join me some day at the
marriage feast of the Lamb.
I think
about Joseph and how he felt, being abandoned by his brothers
and thrown into a well only to be sold as a slave. Had
it not been for this, where would the nation of Israel be, or
even Christians? I, too, felt like I was cast into a well, but
in like manner God purposed this event as he did for Joseph: "What
was meant for as evil will be turned to good".
Mr. Grigg, I know you are a man of faith. I tell you, God is
doing something completely awesome here, for He is greater than
any institution or circumstance. He will honor the Covenant He
swore to Abraham, because we are partakers of it. This promise
was ratified by the shed blood of His only Son. How much greater
was His sacrifice than mine. His sacrifice over shadows anything
this world can throw at the righteous that stand with Him.
