Kevin
Shannon Bearly majored in Police Science at Pasadena Community
College before serving as a United States Naval Communications
Technician for the National Security Agency in the Phillipine
Islands during the Vietnam War. He then attended California Polytechnic
University until entering the Police Academy in 1973. He received
his B.S. in Christian Leadership from Azusa Pacific University.
Before being medically retired from the police department, he
was assigned to uniform patrol out of 77th St. division in the
Watts area of South L.A., and the skid row area of Central division
in the downtown area. After his early retirement, he entered the
ministry, his true vocation and first love. His police background
enabled him to understand and work effectively with drug abusers
and criminal offenders of all types.
In 1977 he, along with two ex-convicts, began a prison ministry
which grew to involve nine county jail and state prison institutions.
This work soon expanded to include service as a police chaplain.
Mr. Bearly left his position as a minister to join the staff of
a well-known conservative educational organization and magazine
in 1989.
In July of 1997, Mr. Bearly helped found The Welch Foundation,
a non-profit educational organization where he works part-time
and serves as Associate Director and host of The Welch Report
Radio Program.
In March of 2001 he celebrated twenty-eight years of marriage
to his wife Ellen. He has two children-Elisa and Eric.
